OnePlus Nord 2 5G Confirmed to Come with Enhanced MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC

OnePlus Nord 2 5G has been officially confirmed by the company with a press release and it will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC. The phone has been rumored for some time, but more details are now becoming official. The OnePlus Nord 2, as the name suggests, will be the successor to the original OnePlus Nord that was launched in July last year. While the company has not shared a release date for the phone, past leaks suggest it could be on July 24.

According to Mukul Sharma, a well-known Indian tech influencer tipped the launch timeline for the OnePlus Nord 2.

According to Sharma, the OnePlus Nord 2 will launch during the last 10 days of July. The handset could go official on July 24. If this is true, we expect the brand to officially announce the launch date in the coming days as it is gearing up for promotion.

OnePlus shared a press release stating that it has teamed up with MediaTek to bring the Dimensity 1200-AI SoC to the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. This confirms the name of the phone along with the SoC. OnePlus said that it worked with MediaTek to enhance the AI based features of the Dimensity 1200 SoC, bringing into existence the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC. This makes the OnePlus Nord 2 5G the first phone to come with a MediaTek SoC.

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G will come with a number of AI-based features. AI Photo Enhancement is capable of recognizing up to 22 different scenarios and automatically adjusting color tones to ensure photos are optimized for maximum quality. For video, it can do live HDR effects in real-time, during recording. AI Color Boost technology, AI Resolution Boost, and Smart Ambient Display technology work together to offer a more dynamic display. For gaming, it brings support for high refresh rate games, low latency, improved heat management, and efficient power consumption. 

JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business Unit said, “The Dimensity 1200-AI is the first example of MediaTek's Dimensity Open Resource Architecture initiative, optimizing the powerful Dimensity 1200 5G chipset to deliver a customized experience for OnePlus users.”
